REVIEW: “SUPERTERRANEA – THE ARTIST WHO CREATED AN AURAL FLOOD”

Check out this wonderful review of REPLICANT, by Amelia Vandergast over at A&R Factory… love it:

“Describing any track as a masterpiece always feels a little exaggerative, yet, I’m lost for what else I would call an electrically arrestive hit which resonates like nothing that you’ve ever heard before.

While I’ve spent a fair amount of time listening to the synth pioneers create their own brands of EDM, the way that Superterranea lay down their synth lines in Replicant allows you to feel that you’ve just undergone your very own epic adventure.

Spacey sonic hits aren’t exactly rare but Superterrenea puts a distinctive twist on Replicant, so it doesn’t feel all too War of the Worlds. With the same amount of experimentalism as you would enjoy from a Bjork track, Superterranea brings Synth-driven soundscapes into an anthemic Rock arena. You’ll need very little persuasion to crank up the volume and envelop yourself in the visceral, slightly ominous soundscape as it reverberates through you.

Simply put, Replicant makes the Arctic Monkey’s synth dabbling with their latest album sound positively amateur. And while the vocals don’t get showcased all too much, they still bring a great dynamic to the sound, as no matter how many effects are laden on the vocals, the power doesn’t fail to captivate you. The vocals from Jessica Blaise Ward were fairly reminiscent from what you can expect from Shiny Toy Guns and Yeah Yeah Yeahs; and there definitely isn’t enough of that on the contemporary soundwaves.

You can check out Superterranea’s latest track Replicant for yourselves by heading over to Spotify now.

FLOATING POINT: WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Floating Point - the second single from the upcoming record - a six minute instrumental adventure to Superterranea’s dark core.

Somewhat of a departure from the hooky, vocal led-”Replicant”. It lives in the same universe, but it’s an all-together different journey. A brooding evolution of synths and beats which alternate between acoustic and electric. Building to a huge 8-guitar stadium-rock finale.

“Floating Point” was the track that set us on the Superterranea journey and it spans a lot of the soundscape that the other tracks live within. Faultless and effortless drums executed as usual by Joshua Mac. <3

The next single “Worlds Without” will be a return to huge vocals and an amazingly exciting cameo monologue. Currently layering and mixing all this for release sometime before end of April.

Keep listening! The uptick on Spotify has been incredible as more and more people are streaming, saving and sharing.

After a year of hard work demo-ing, recording, collaborating, mixing and mastering - the first track REPLICANT from the Floating Point EP is finally released! Couldn’t be happier with the outcome, or the process that brought us to this point. This release is the first of a set of tracks that will form ACT 1 of a larger album. Very excited to get this out in the world and have people join the journey.

A bit about the first track REPLICANT

Leaning heavily into a Bladerunner-influenced soundscape and lyrical theme. This one sets the mood for the coming tracks. Introducing the universe we’re playing in. It comprises all the elements that are explored in different ways across the EP.

Conceived and demo’d deep in the woods after successfully breaking my new home studio in with Exec Producer Steven Battelle - during the recording of his awesome latest album.

A word on my vocal compadre Jessica Blaise Ward - she brought the track up to the next level. An inspired collaborator, she brought her sonic personality to the record, working diligently and brilliantly to write and perform all the vocals and lyrics - from the UK.

One of my best buddies and long time musical inspiration Joshua Mac dropped drums for all these tracks in a couple of sessions up in Woodstock. After so many hours hacking away in practice rooms, awesome that we can final get on tape together.

Super happy to have these two collaborating and there’s a lot more of their awesome talents weaved through the whole record.

Once the demo was nailed, I took it all down to Brooklyn for Jeremy Page to mix and master. We added some additional live guitars and SFX in his lovely subterranean studio. (Jeremy works with some incredible artists (like CZARFACE / MFDOOM, KENDRA MORRIS and my good friends WANNA).

WHO / WHAT IS SUPERTERRANEA?

SUPERTERRANEA has been a real passion project building on everything i’ve done before - thematically revolving around a deep love for space exploration, hard sci-fi novels and soundtrack music.

Sonically, we’re sitting in the SYNTHWAVE genre - which takes in influences from 80’s movies and soundtracks - but overall this is really a mashup of everything I have ever listened to and loved. It’s definitely a ton of synths from across the decades, but it’s also a bunch of heavy, screaming guitars and a close collaboration of robots and humans on various drum kits.

Shout out to the humans that helped make this a reality:

JESSICA BLAISE WARD - VOCAL, LYRICAL WRITING + PERFORMANCE, PATIENCE

JOSHUA MAC - HIT SOME DRUMS, FOR REAL. NEXT LEVEL.

STEVEN BATTELLE - MASSIVE INSPIRATION, GUIDANCE + MENTOR

JEREMY PAGE - STUDIO DEMON, MIXING, MASTERING, STOPPING ME FROM MESSING IT ALL UP.

I hope you love this track as much as we do. DOWNLOAD / STREAM / SHARE and FOLLOW to stay tuned for the next release in a few weeks. Glad to have you along for the ride.
